Coastal, terrestrial and lacustrine hydrothermal vents
Part of the work of the EMR BIOMEX focuses on coastal, terrestrial and lacustrine hydrothermal vents. The main objective of this work is to study the determinants of microbial diversity in these extreme habitats, some of which are subject to active volcano-tectonic processes (lacustrine hydrothermal vents in Lake Kleifarvatn) and others to highly contrasting physico-chemical parameters and geographical isolation (terrestrial and coastal hydrothermal springs in the French Southern and Antarctic Territories).
