Stéphane Hourdez, Banyuls Ocenaologic laboratory Observatory
Stéphane Hourdez obtained a PhD in Biological Oceanography in 2000 from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris. His work focused on the evolution of adaptations to hypoxia in deep-sea annelids. At the same time, he acquired expertise in taxonomy of annelids and in particular of scaleworms (Polynoidae), which he still pursues to this day. He then did a post-doc in Chuck Fisher’s laboratory at Penn State University until 2003, when he was hired as a CNRS research in the Marine Laboratory in Roscoff. In 2018, he moved to the Banyuls Ocenaologic laboratory Observatory. He combines evolution and physiology studies to understand the evolution of adaptations to extreme marine environments, including deep-sea hydrothermal vents and Antarctica.
